IWED Spotlight: Jennifer Holcomb, PE

We're celebrating International Women in Engineering Day by highlighting a few of our skilled engineers. #IWED18 #RaisingtheBar

JHolcombRole: Security Solution Lead

I help Markon and its clients manage their security risks and stay safe.

What's your favorite part of the job?

I get to think like the bad guy and try to defeat him.

Why did you choose a career in engineering?

I loved (and was good at) math and wanted to do something beneficial in the world; at that time, I was thinking of an environmental focus. Security was not my expected role, but the engineering background works well to support it.

Any advice for young girls considering an engineering career?

There is a lot more to engineering besides the standard four practices: civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical. Think about what you want to do and explore the different engineering programs. Make sure you understand what that degree can offer in terms of opportunities--what you will do when you receive your degree. Choose what will make you happy, or if you don’t know for certain, choose what will give you the most flexibility for what you are thinking you want to do.
